Scent for Fun

Intro to Scent for Fun!

Intro to Scent for Fun introduces your dog to the sport of scent work by learning to search for “scent” (food) through the use of games. This dog activity is gaining popularity as its a fun way to work your dog's brain. It is ideal for active dogs, dogs with physical limitations and every dog in between. Dogs that are human and/or dog reactive can play, too! Dogs learn to search boxes and other objects for hidden food and odor while handlers learn how to read their dog's body language to understand when they’ve found the scent.

  • 8-week session, classes meet for 1 hour weekly

  • $180/8 weeks

  • None. Handlers may find it helpful to complete Basics prior to attending, but it is not required.

Scent for Fun! Continuing

Offered as a drop-in or class package, this class is for teams that have completed “Intro to: Scent for Fun!” or have equivalent experience. Each week, we will continue to play scent games to work your dog’s brains, hone their sniffing skills and have fun! Food alone or hidden scent will be paired with food for those newer to searching.

New to this session: Searches will be tailored to submit to Cyber Scent Work. Cyber Scent Work is a new online scent work organization where you can submit videos to earn titles for your pup. This is a great opportunity for reactive dogs who may not be able to join a traditional scent work trial and a great opportunity for dogs who haven’t learned all the odors yet. Everyone gets expert feedback which is also an incredible resource! Video recording and submitting is optional. Let’s learn about this great new organization together!

  • 8-week session meets hourly per week

  • $160/8 weeks or $25 per drop-in class

  • Dogs must have completed a Scent for Fun! Introductory class prior to attending.

Happy Ratters

Happy Ratters is a fun team sport based on urban rat hunting. It allows your dog to use their natural desire to hunt and harnesses their unique ability to detect scent, and determine the source. The sport has similarities to barn hunt, except instead of straw, an urban setting is created using trash bags, boxes, barrels, and other “trash” items (all items are clean). During Happy Ratters class, dogs will learn to search for the hidden rats in an environment set up to mimic a city alley. Dogs will also be required to successfully complete certain challenges in addition to finding the rats!

  • 6-session meets hourly per week

  • $200/6 weeks

  • None. Handlers may find it helpful to complete Basics prior to attending, but it is not required.
